Lesson 11

The Epistle to the Hebrews

World English Bible translation

 Today's Scripture

4:11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. 4:12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

4:13 There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Today's Lesson

The people of Israel had been led out of Egypt by Moses. They had received the Law and the promises from Moses at Sinai and he had led them to the doorstep of the land that God had promised to them. But, Israel did not enter into the Land because they failed to believe the promises of God. Instead, they gave way to their fears and refused to enter.

God's promise is still open. God offers a new kind of Promise Land to people today. God's promise is a new life and a new covenant in Christ. God offers a rest if we will believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and join in His new, resurrected life. To enter God's rest, all we must do is believe. We must be diligent to enter into God's rest and encourage all in the hopes that no one will fail to enter God's rest.

We must be diligent in our faith because God can discern our thoughts and the intentions of our hearts. God's word sees through to our very hearts. His truth searches out every part of us. There is nothing about us that God does not see and understand. He is our Creator and His knowledge and understanding of each one of us is intimate.

Nothing is hidden from God's sight. God knows every part of you. This knowledge should not inspire fear. God sees every part of you and still He beckons you to enter into His rest. God knows everything about you and invites you into His own house.

Will you give way to your fears or give way to God's rest? He invites you into His house to rest. Will you accept His invitation?
