Lucifer's Touch... A Powerful Evil Hex! Light 3 black candles at midnight and repeat the following three times. If you have a bell you should ring it three times at the beginning of this ritual... I call to the mighty bringer of light, Lucifer... "Spirits of the abyss, here my call all most powerful one and all Lucifer my thoughts do sing through the universe they now ring Take thine enemy, take him smite Break him, scorn him in the night From the mighty depths of hell cast your darkness on his shell Oh Lucifer, oh shinning star Touch him, burn him from afar Revenge now will have its day for thine enemy starts to fray" So mote it be! During the time spent doing this hex, you should be worked up into a frenzy of anger and thinking of the darkness about to descend upon your enemy. When you are done, extinguish the candles.

This is cool, just yesterday I relized that I can shoot powerfull lasers out of my eyes. It was at school around 1:00pm and Mrs.Brig was bitching at me again for sleeping in class. I was just staring at her cleavage thinking about how hot she would look if she took it all off. Anyhow, all of a sudden I saw two red little dots on her bosoms. At first I thought there were from some damn kids behind me with laser pointers or something but no. They went wherever I looked. I focused on Mrs.Brig's mellons real hard. In only a few seconds smoke was begining to form on her shirt. After another few seconds, she screamed in pain as her shirt started on fire. Whoa! Did I really do that?! She cancled class when she went into the ambulence. I skipped out of school for the rest of the day and sat by the highway perfecting my new found super power. After only an hour of practice, I was able to burn holes in the tires of moving vehicles in less than two seconds! As you might expect I was responsible for 14 car crashes that afternoon. My only regret was not taking along my camera. Damn it would have been cool to take photos of all the carnage! But at least I was able to pick a $50 bill from the pocket of a dead man by the road. I went home had half a bag of sugar for diner and watched the weather channel until I went to bed. My mother woke me up at 9:00am by pounding on the door to my room and ringing the door bell. I hate it when she wakes me from a wetdream! So I climbed out of bed and blew her fucking brains with my laser eyes! Take that you fuckng noisy bitch! I immedetly went back to bed and masturbated until noon. Then I got up and cleaned mom's blood and brains from the walls and floors. Then I cut up the body into tiny pieces and flushed each one down the toilet. Now I just went on the internet to tell all you guys here about my super powers! (And to look at Asain porn.) I'm planning on robing the town bank this afternoon and I'll send you another post detailing how it went. Anyhow, over and out for now!

Two deer hunters get lost in the woods only a mile apart during a cool autumn day. One of them is an atheist, the other is a christian. Both have some experience with the outdoors. Both have survival gear, maps, food and so forth in their packs and both live alone in cabins with no contact with the outside world, so there is little hope of and type of rescue. The atheist says to himself "OK, I'm lost. There is no need for me to panic. I will use my map, compass and outdoor experience to find my way home again." He starts off towards the north where he thinks Red lake is located. The Christian says to himself "OK, I'm lost. My only hope is to pray for God's help." He gets down on his knees and begins praying. An hour later, the atheist arrives at a lake. But it is not the lake he thought he was heading towards. "This lake is larger than Red lake and there are two islands in the middle." he thinks so he skirts the shoreline for a while to get an idea of what the shape of the lake might be. The christian however is still praying "Please God, let me get out of these woods alive, please! God allmighty!" Another hour later the atheist hunter has dertimined the lake is in a wide oval shape. So he checks his map. "A wide oval shaped lake with two islands in the middle..." he thinks as he looks at the map. "Ah! here it is." he points at a place on the map. "I am at bear lake. That's only a 1/3 of a mile to a railway to the west." So he starts off towards the west already feeling more at ease he begins whistiling. The christian however has not moved and continues praying. "If you help me get out of these woods alive God, I will go to church everyday and I will help the poor!" A short walk later the atheist hunter has arrived at the railway just as he predicted. "Excellent! I am now no longer lost. All I have to do is follow this railway south to highway 23. I shall be home in less than three hours." The christian hunter has not moved an inch and amazingly is still praying and begining to panic. "I love you God, but I don't want to leave this Earth just yet. Please I'm begging you help me! I don't want to die just yet!" In only 45 minutes, the atheist hunter has arrived at the highway where he hitches a ride with an old farmer back to his cabin. It begins to snow and winds begin picking up. The atheist hunter says to the farmer. "Looks like a blizzard is comming. Good thing I found my out of those woods." The farmer only replies "Yep." That same moment, the christian hunter realizes a blizzard is comming as well and begins hysterically praying "God please, please, please I need your help!! I am going to die out here if you don't save me!!" A short drive later the atheist hunter is at the front porch of his cabin. He thanks the farmer for the ride, enters his cabin and lights his stove. He pulls a brew out of the fridge, sips it and reclines on his favourite chair. The christian hunter however, is not at all relaxed. His knees are beging to ache from from being on hard rock for hours. his hands and feet are getting numb from the cold and he is in a state of panic. Still he stubbronly and foolishly continues to pray thinking he is not praying hard enough for God's help. Two hours later the blizzard is raging full force. Snow is falling in heaps and winds are howling. The atheist hunter crawls into bed and extinuigshes the lights. "Good night." he says to himself. The very same moment the christian hunter dies of hypothermia. Not having made even a single step ever since he realized he was lost. Moral of the story: Prayer does not solve serious real-life problems. You can only ultimately rely on yourself.

The TRUTH about Christianity: The truth is, Christianity is a fusion of an ancient Jewish set of legends and myths, such as all ancient societies had, mixed up with a bizarre little personality cult that emerged in the first century. It has no relevance to modern society, and time and time again the progress of reason and science has shown it to be inaccurate. Symptoms of Christianity: 1)Jesus fetish. Those afflicted with Christianity develop an obsessive fixation on a man known as Jesus Christ, an ancient cult leader who they say 'loves' them and whose corpse, after he was executed, they believe climbed out of his tomb and ate some food and then went on a space trip into heaven. This man apparently 'saved' them from their 'sins' when he came back from the dead. 2)Intellectual suicide. Sufferers completely close down their brain and ignore science, logic and reason. Christians, having abandoned their brains, rely on a book, the "Bible", for answers to everything - including how to handle their sex lives. 3)Anti-social behavior. Christians often retreat from, or condemn the rest of society which they believe is full of "sinners". 4)Paranoia and psychotic delusions. Christians believe that a fearsome monster, which they call 'Satan', is at large in the world 'tempting' them and trying to drag people off and burn them in his den, know as 'hell'. This monster, 'Satan', is alleged to be red with horns and often carries a pitch fork. 5)Violence. Christians have been responsible for some of the most horrific acts of violence, murders and genocide in history. The Crusades, where thousands of Muslims were slaughtered, the genocide of South Americans conducted by the Spanish Conquistadors, the murder of men and women accused of being 'heretics' and 'witches' in the 16th and 17th century are only a few examples of countless acts of cold blooded sadism conducted in the name of this cult. While the Christians have cut back on their murders in recent years, they still very successfully drive countless numbers of gay youth to suicide. 6)Sexual hang-ups. Christians often suffer from very severe sexual hang-ups, where perfectly natural and enjoyable human feelings are interpreted as 'evil' and therefore dangerously repressed. This can lead to very unhealthy inner turmoil and psychological trauma. 7)Hatred and bigotry. Although not surfacing in all cases, symptoms of pathological hatred and bigotry often surface in Christians. It is no coincidence that hate groups such as the Ku Klux Klan are fanatical Christians. Although not all Christians are like this, the point is that many are, so therefore the potential for such dangerous and insidious mentalities is inherent in the cult. It is interesting to note that a religion such as Buddhism, which for it's widespread influence is the Eastern equivalent of Christianity, although being extremely widespread and diversified has never harbored any hate groups.

You expect me to believe Jesus was born of a virgin impregnated by a ghost? Do you believe all the crazy tales of ancient religions? Julius Caesar was reportedly born of a virgin; Roman historian Seutonius said Augustus bodily rose to heaven when he died; and Buddha was supposedly born speaking. You don't believe all that, do you? Why do you expect me to swallow the fables of Christianity? I find it incredible that you ask me to believe that the earth was created in six literal days; women come from a man's rib; a snake, a donkey, and a burning bush spoke human language; the entire world was flooded, covering the mountains to drown evil; all animal species, millions of them, rode on one boat; language variations stem from the tower of Babel; Moses had a magic wand; the Nile turned to blood; a stick turned into a snake; witches, wizards, and sorcerers really exist; food rained from the sky for 40 years; people were cured by the sight of a brass serpent; the sun stood still to help Joshua win a battle, and it went backward for King Hezekiah; men survived unaided in a fiery furnace; a detached hand floated in the air and wrote on a wall; men followed a star which directed them to a particular house; Jesus walked on water unaided; fish and bread magically multiplied to feed the hungry; water instantly turned into wine; mental illness is caused by demons; a "devil" with wings exists who causes evil; people were healed by stepping into a pool agitated by angels; disembodied voiced spoke from the sky; Jesus vanished and later materialized from thin air; people were healed by Peter's shadow; angels broke people out of jail; a fiery lake of eternal torment awaits unbelievers under the earth ... while there is life-after-death in a city which is 1,500 miles cubed, with mansions and food, for Christians only. If you believe these stories, then you are the one with the problem, not me. These myths violate natural law, contradict science, and fail to correspond with reality or logic. If you can't see that, then you can't separate truth from fantasy. It doesn't matter how many people accept delusions inflicted by "holy" men; a widely held lie is still a lie. If you are so gullible, then you are like the child who believes the older brother who says there is a monster in the hallway. But there is nothing to be afraid of; go turn on the light and look for yourself. If Christianity were simply untrue I would not be too concerned. Santa is untrue, but it is a harmless myth which people outgrow. But Christianity, besides being false, is also abhorrent. It amazes me that you claim to love the god of the bible, a hateful, arrogant, sexist, cruel being who can't tolerate criticism. I would not want to live in the same neighborhood with such a creature! The biblical god is a macho male warrior. Though he said "Thou shalt not kill," he ordered death for all opposition, wholesale drowning and mass exterminations; punishes offspring to the fourth generation (Ex. 20:5); ordered pregnant women and children to be ripped up (Hos. 13:16); demands animal and human blood to appease his angry vanity; is partial to one race of people; judges women to be inferior to men; is a sadist who created a hell to torture unbelievers; created evil (Is. 45:7); discriminated against the handicapped (Lev. 21:18-23); ordered virgins to be kept as spoils of war (Num. 31:15-18, Deut. 21:11-14); spread dung on people's faces (Mal. 2:3); sent bears to devour 42 children who teased a prophet (II Kings 2:23-24); punishes people with snakes, dogs, dragons, drunkenness, swords, arrows, axes, fire, famine, and infanticide; and said fathers should eat their sons (Ez. 5:10). Is that nice? Would you want to live next door to such a person? And Jesus is a chip off the old block. He said, "I and my father are one," and he upheld "every jot and tittle" of the Old Testament law. Mt. 5:18 He preached the same old judgment: vengeance and death, wrath and distress, hell and torture for all nonconformists. He believed in demons, angels and spirits. He never denounced the subjugation of slaves or women. Women were excluded as disciples and as guests at his heavenly table. Except for hell he introduced nothing new to ethics or philosophy. He was disrespectful of his mother and brothers; he said we should hate our parents and desert our families. Mt. 10:35-36, Lk. 14:26 (So much for "Christian family life.") He denounced anger, but was often angry himself. Mt. 5:22, Mk. 3:5 He called people "fools" (Mt. 23:17,19), "serpents," and "white sepulchers," though he warned that such language puts you in danger of hellfire. Mt. 5:22 He said "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword." Mt. 10:34 (So much for "Peace on Earth.") He irrationally cursed and withered a fig tree for being barren out of season. Mt. 21:19 He mandated burning unbelievers. Jn. 15:6 (The Church has complied with relish.) He stole a horse. Lk. 19:30-33 He told people to cut off hands, feet, eyes and sexual organs. Mt. 5:29-30, 19:12 You want me to accept Jesus, but I think I'll pick my own friend, thank you. One of Jesus's many contradictions was saying good works should be seen, and not seen. Mt. 5:16, 6:1-4 One of his mistakes was saying that the mustard plant has the smallest seed. Mt. 13:31-32 The writers of Matthew and Luke could not even get his genealogy straight, contradicting the Old Testament, and giving Jesus two discrepant lines through Joseph, his non-father! I also find Christianity to be morally repugnant. The concepts of original sin, depravity, substitutionary forgiveness, intolerance, eternal punishment, and humble worship are all beneath the dignity of intelligent human beings and conflict with the values of kindness and reason. They are barbaric ideas for primitive cultures cowering in fear and ignorance. Finally, Christianity is harmful. More people have been killed in the name of a god than for any other reason. The Church has a shameful, bloody history of Crusades, Inquisitions, witch-burnings, heresy trials, American colonial intolerance, disrespect of indigenous traditions (such as American Indians), support of slavery, and oppression of women. Modern "fruits" of religion include the Jonestown massacre, the callous fraud of "faith healers," recent wars and ethnic cleansing, and fighting in Northern Ireland. Religion also poses a danger to mental health, damaging self-respect, personal responsibility, and clarity of thought. Do you see why I do not respect the biblical message? It is an insulting bag of nonsense. You have every right to torment yourself with such insanity - but leave me out of it. I have better things to do with my life

People seem to pray for almost everything: health, safety, security, good grades in school, job promotion, wealth, or for loftier goals like world peace and an end to human suffering. Prayer is also used for ill, calling upon "God" for conceit, fraud, or revenge. But do these innumerable prayers actually work? Does prayer affect outcomes? If a person contracts a disease, his or her family may pray for their recovery. When the patient gets better, the family may think that the prayers caused the healing If a woman becomes pregnant, she and her husband may pray for a healthy child. When the child is born in good health, the couple may believe that their prayers were answered. If a hurricane threatens to destroy a home, the occupants may pray for their safety. If the house is spared, the residents may assume that the prayers protected them. In each of these examples, however, it is unlikely the prayers had anything to do with the outcomes. Although some claim that prayers give comfort to believers in distress, this is hardly a reason to presume they actually affect outcomes. When someone prays, even silently, it is assumed that the person is appealing to a "higher power" or an "Almighty God." Christians, for instance, claim that their "God" is all-powerful and responds directly to individual or collective prayers. But not all prayers are answered, as many people who pray for healing or survival die nonetheless. Those who pray for safety and security are still robbed or beaten. Students who pray for good test grades often fail anyway. Employees who pray for promotion are still rejected or laid-off from their jobs. Even if prayer appears to work sometimes, it certainly does not work all of the time. I will argue, however, that prayer does not work at all; that it is at best a superfluous mental exercise; a last-ditch attempt to escape from reality when control of a situation either is or seems to be lost. Observe that prayer is only claimed to work under conditions where the desired result is probable within reason. In the three examples above, the absence of prayer would not have changed the outcome. If a person's arm or leg is bitten off and eaten by a shark, no prayer will cause the limb to grow back. If a person dies and is buried, no prayer is going to bring the deceased back to life. If a house burns to the ground, no prayer will cause the structure to restore itself. If an airplane breaks apart and crashes into the ocean, no prayer will return the aircraft to the sky and safe landing. Millions of believers pray for world peace, yet wars have raged around the planet unabatedly for centuries. Prayers for an end to human suffering have had no effect, as millions of children continue to starve to death every year. Prayer does not affect outcomes anymore than animal sacrifices, astrological events, or voodoo spells. The fact that prayer never works in situations where the desired result is not already probable within reason, is either proof that prayer does not work at all or that "God" is limited in power. In this matter, the principle of parsimony (Occam's Razor) leads logical minds to conclude that prayer has no effect on anything. Prayer is superfluous at best, but for some, prayer is a delusion, and in extreme cases may become a harmful neurosis.

Behold, the fate of those who would oppose Us. The servile followers of the nazarene are torn limb from limb by the Black Wolves of Satan. The nazarene has grown lax in his complacience, & pleasures himself with his braying xian brides, who submit without question or doubt. For 2000 years they have been kept in a mental pen, & a frail, white picket fence of crucified messiahs has preserved them in ignorance, abstinance, & delusion. Satan appears as Abaddon to rend the pastures asunder. The nazarene is oblivious to his final destruction, as he is awash in blindlight & hypocritical sin. A black werewolf-Satanimal-beast lunges above him, & pounces, consuming the glowing, bleeding heart, silencing the bastard-son-of-a-whore once & for all. The predators lay indulgently, bellies full with the mutton of xian flesh, & pick their teeth with their victim's bones, basking in the moonlight. They howl up into the night, proclaiming this dark deed done. Satan smiles.........

Let's assume for a moment that there is a god and a devil fighting for your eternal ghost... What devious trickery might a satan try to pull on you? I thought about it and here's what I would do if I were satan and I was given permission to tempt humanity, but had the for-knowledge that gods true followers would try to stop me. The best way to tempt the most humans would be to subvert those who could pose a threat. How would I do this? Simple, I'd write a book. Not just any book though, but a book more blasphemous, seductive, and evil than had ever been seen by mortal eyes. A book full of ceceit, preaching a hypocratic god who imposes amore stringent set of rules on flawed humanity than he does on himself, yet is the source of all morality. Those who don't buy into this twisted logic will be said to have no morals. A book of lies, with blatant contradictions with reality, from a flat earth, to cities and places that have never existed, to cruel actions taken in the name of a god that dares call himself "loving". I'd write a book that describes the false god in cynical detail, yet leaves me as a shadowy menace. Always in the background, always scheming but no real threat to the TRUE followers of that false god, whom because of their faith, are completely immune to my powers. Still I must save my pride, and to do so I would make it seem that I am a thousand times more active than god, my forces constantly at work doing evil. They would seem to be constantly winning, yet people would cling to the hope of a false prophecy that involves billions of deaths, torture and evil and an end to the very world they exist within. If I were satan I would write a book chock full sex, violence, murder, torment, filthy language, intolerance and hatred. A book that would be used to justify all forms of atrocities against men, women and children, not at all limited to the very extinction of entire peoples at my command, from the face of the earth. This book would be so diabolically written that people would drown themselves in it completely and then spend their lives trying to pull others in with them. They would do all they could to hold up the progress of human enlightenment and science that could lighten the horrors of suffering upon the face of the planet out of their own pride and greed and lust for eternal life. They would prey on the weak and wounded, the suffering and the sorrowful with my false promises of happiness and light. They will basically behave exactly like me, yet be to programmed by my text to realize it. Then, when god decides it's time to judge mankind and all those people, all those who've drown in my book, all the ones who hung on my every word and worshiped by the pagen words of my false prophets, would come before the true god expecting to be saved... And he would turn them away. ...and standing there before the flames, would be me. Holding aloft my book with a smile, and welcoming those I'd drown within my "holy bible" to their eternal damnation.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." --Proverbs 3:5 "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." --Proverbs 16:25 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ..." --2 Corinthians 10:5 Let us try a hypothetical exercise. Imagine, for a moment, that you wanted to create a memetic virus - a belief or system of beliefs of your choosing that would spread from person to person, instill its targets with specific thoughts or opinions of your choosing, and be almost impossible to eradicate once it had taken root in a mind. Why anyone would want to do such a thing is not really important for the purposes of this exercise, but there could be many reasons. Perhaps you were after personal gain and wanted to foster a belief system that would convince people to give their money and possessions to you. Perhaps you were an aspiring tyrant striving for the unquestioning obedience of the populace. Perhaps you were a political or military leader seeking to create the perfect army of fanatically dedicated and loyal soldiers. None of that truly matters. The question is, how could you create such a virus? How could you craft a system of beliefs that would inspire this reaction? The first thing you would need to do would be to find a way to insinuate your virus into a mind - to convince people to accept your new ideology. True viruses work by surrounding their 'payload' of genetic material with a protein coat that disguises them as innocuous substances. When the virus comes in contact with a cell, the protein shell is able to successfully dock with the cell membrane's receptors, like a key fitting into a lock. Once this has happened, the virus is able to penetrate the membrane and inject its own DNA into the nucleus of the cell. The same principle holds true here. To convince people to accept your memetic virus into their minds, you must disguise it as something innocuous, even something beneficial. Without a doubt, the best way to do this would be to convince people that the belief system you are offering them is good for them - that positive results will accrue if they accept it. The most rational way to do this would be to promise them a reward of some sort: money, fame, power, attractive members of the opposite sex, and so on. But that's needlessly complicated. Why not just go for the jugular? All these things are routes to pleasure, so let's just set them aside and promise your adherents pleasure in its pure form, undiluted happiness and bliss. That seems simple enough. However, there is a problem with this. If you promise people a reward you can't deliver, and then don't deliver, they will realize that your ideology is false and abandon it. How can we avoid this? The logical answer is to make the reward proposition a perpetually moving target: keep promising them that they'll get it if they work a little bit harder, do a little bit more for you. That way, if they don't get the reward you can move the blame from yourself to them, and they'll have to believe you. But there will always be sharp-eyed skeptics who'll want to see examples of people who have gotten this reward, just to prove it exists. So, as a final twist, let's move the reward to a place where no one can verify or disprove the fact of its awarding. Like... after death! That's the ticket! We now have a nicely unfalsifiable proposition. No one will ever be able to show evidence that you were wrong. The second problem is transmission. You may be able to sway a few people into believing you, but you can't spend all your time evangelizing. The logical solution is to add to the forming memetic virus a suite of beliefs that cause the newly converted themselves to want to spread it to others. Since we already have the reward proposition, that next step is a simple one. Convince your acolytes that it is beneficial to them - that it will increase their own reward further - to spread the good news to everyone they know. Better yet, phrase it in a more selfless form: convince them that they should convert other people for those own people's good. That way everyone can enjoy the reward they've already been promised. You now have your vector - a means by which the memetic virus can be spread from host to host. True viruses work in a similar way: they invade the cell, conquer its DNA, and in effect give the cellular machinery the message "make more copies of me." Your ideology is now poised to multiply in similarly explosive fashion. There's just one problem left. Medical science has defenses against viruses and other pathogens: antibiotics, vaccines, and so on. Yet viruses have their own counter-defenses; they can mutate and so gain immunity to the substances designed to kill them. How can we make our memetic virus immune to a cure? The answer, once again, is marvelously simple. Add to your virus another suite of beliefs. These ones will convince the infected that questioning the virus is wrong. Teach them that doubt is evil, that skepticism is to be set aside, that critical thought is to be avoided. Teach them that even a rational examination of their own beliefs will put them in serious jeopardy of losing their promised reward, and that instead, blind faith is essential. Trust me, your message will go. Don't think for yourself. Don't research. Believe what I tell you. Obey me and believe that I am always right. In this way, you will never give skepticism a chance to take root; you can cut doubt off at the pass. Your memetic virus is now ready to go. There are a few conceivable changes you could enact to make it even more effective: for example, you could balance the promised reward with a promise of punishment for those who stray, to ensure even stronger obedience among your believers. You could add that those who are not infected are in dire jeopardy of this punishment, to increase the urgency and effectiveness of its transmission. You could insert an instruction to believers to infect children as early as possible, before a strong 'immune system' of critical thinking skills can form. You could add rules and doctrines to create an entire culture based around this virus, so people grow up without ever being exposed to possible counteragents. But by and large, what we have now will suffice. Insert the 'payload' of whatever specific beliefs you wish it to instill, release it on an unsuspecting populace, and the rest is history. Of course, virtually every reader will by now have realized where this is going. Religion is precisely such a memetic virus. I am not necessarily claiming that religion was invented for any of the reasons described above. I am claiming that religion is the textbook example of a system of thought designed to stifle critical thinking and keep its adherents enslaved to doctrine. If you wanted to invent a system to hold people in mental thralldom, you couldn't do any better than the belief systems we already have. An example may prove my point. It is axiomatic that truth cannot contradict truth. In other words, a doctrine that is true should have nothing to fear from even the most rigorous critical analysis, because if it is correct, it will inevitably be borne out by the evidence. Therefore, it is only logical that any religion that really believes in its own truth should instruct its followers to question it at every opportunity. It should dare them to try to prove it wrong. However, this is not the case. With only a few, very rare exceptions, almost all religions teach their members not to question or doubt, but to conform. In fact, many teach that doubt and skepticism are downright evil. If you have doubts, the message goes, suppress them. If you feel skepticism, stifle it. If you find yourself about to question, go pray for relief from the evil temptations of reason. If you think critically, you are putting yourself at dire risk of endless, horrible punishment. Why is this? Why do so many religions try so hard to suppress skepticism and doubt? Shouldn't a true doctrine welcome critical scrutiny? Shouldn't it welcome the hard questions? If you are so confident that you are right, why are you afraid to prove it? Of course, the answer is obvious. As described above in the example of the memetic virus, the best way to shelter a falsehood is to discourage doubt and threaten those who ask inconvenient questions. In many religions, including the Judeo-Christian tradition, this has come to its logical conclusion in the figure of Satan. Satan is the avatar of knowledge and critical thinking; he is the personification of doubt. In the fable of the Garden of Eden, Satan is the one who encourages Adam and Eve to question God, and as a result gets humanity kicked out of Paradise and condemned to lives of toil and suffering. The message here is rather obvious. This moral reappears in the story of Satan's temptation of Jesus. If you are the Son of God, he urges Christ, prove it; do miracles, display your powers, give us some evidence. Jesus refuses, admonishing the Devil that one should not try to put God to the test. Again, the message here has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. If you feel doubt, or if someone asks you for proof, that is the voice of Satan seeking to lead you into confusion and error. No matter how reasonable he seems, no matter how convincing he sounds, you must ignore him, at peril of your immortal soul. This tradition of discouraging doubt and encouraging ignorance and blind faith is again seen in John Milton's classic Paradise Lost, with its unforgettable portrait of Lucifer the fallen angel, expelled from glory for questioning God's absolute authority, railing against his maker and proclaiming that he would rather reign in Hell than serve in Heaven. But the most compelling and frightening (for believers) thing about this Satan is that he makes sense. Many of his arguments against God seem reasonable, even persuasive - why should he get all the power, why should everyone have to do what he says? Is it because might makes right? But, again, the same theme recurs. No matter how much sense Satan makes, he is the father of lies, the prince of deceivers, and he has nothing in mind for you but evil. No matter how compelling his arguments seem, you must not listen to him. You must ignore everything he says. This theme is seen once again in the Bible quotes at the beginning of this essay. They all say the same thing: trust God, believe in God, obey God (or at least his representatives here on Earth); think only the thoughts he wants you to think, believe only the things he wants you to believe; and above all, do not question. Do not rely on your own ability for critical thought (the one he created you with). What you think may seem right to you, but the result of choosing your own path is death. Why do so many religions say this? Bizarrely, the Christian religion claims that God's existence is self-evident in nature, and yet that same religion instructs its followers not to investigate this for themselves on pain of eternal torture. Why is knowledge a sin? Why were we instructed not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - why was God trying to keep us naive and obedient? (As Frank Zappa put it, "God is the smartest and he doesn't want any competition... get smart and I'll fuck you over, sayeth the Lord.") Is healthy doubt really the alluring whisper of Satan, or is religion a massive mind-control scheme, brainwashing its followers to keep them from thinking for themselves? I know which answer fundamentalists will instantly jump for, but again I remind readers that truth cannot contradict truth. If your religion is correct, it should have nothing to fear from the evidence. It should have nothing to fear from doubt. Furthermore, religion has set itself up to encourage the compartmentalization of the human mind. Authors who write fantasy, science fiction or other imaginative genres are familiar with the concept of "suspension of disbelief", wherein a reader must set aside his knowledge of how reality ordinarily works and enter the story on its own terms. Readers of sword-and-sorcery fantasy must temporarily forget that magic doesn't really exist. Science fiction fans must accept the author's terms for what technology of the future will be capable of. If one does not do this, the story will seem ridiculous and implausible. Religion is the same way. Everyone knows that miracles of the sort described in the Bible don't really happen. Everyone knows, at some level, that three-days-dead people don't come back to life; that human beings require two parents to be conceived; that shrubbery doesn't speak, seas don't spontaneously part and rivers don't turn into blood; and that God never, ever, makes the sort of dramatic manifestations he is so commonly credited with in the Bible. Everyone knows these things, and it is good for them that they do, because in a world run entirely by miracles nothing could ever get done. We would have no reason to believe that our prior experiences would be any guide in helping us predict the future. We need the regularities of natural law to create patterns we can recognize and learn from, and most of us do operate under the presumption that the way things worked yesterday is a reasonably good guide to the way they will work tomorrow. Nevertheless, religion violates this rule. When a theist picks up their Bible, they suspend their disbelief and switch to the "religion compartment" of their brain. Suddenly, all rules of logic and evidence are set aside, and anything goes. Snakes and burning bushes that talk? People who walk on water? Prophets who receive revelation from angels? Loving, merciful deities who order the brutal, bloody massacre of thousands or millions? No problem! It's religion. Everything is allowed. It doesn't have to make sense. When the theist sets the Bible down, they revert to their "everyday mode" - with a slight difference. Most of us suspend our disbelief purely for the purposes of the story; when we set the latest fantasy novel down, we don't rush out to cast spells or invoke demons. We know that it's just fiction. Yet the theists continue to believe, on some level, that things like this can actually happen. In a sense, their suspension-of-disbelief mechanism is stuck in the "on" position. They actually believe this stuff - though, again, the compartmentalization of their mind and the knowledge that miracles don't really happen allows them to function in the real world. This is yet another reason why religion is a mechanism of mind control, and it also explains why people who are intelligent and rational in every other respect often completely lose it when the topic of God comes up. They have switched to the "religion" compartment of their brains. In this mode of thought, no arguments can convince them, no evidence can sway them, because in this mode of thought things are not required to make sense. Maybe it's God testing my faith; maybe it's Satan tempting me. Who knows? Who cares? All bets are off. But when dealing with anything else - including the holy books of other faiths - they are in "logical" mode and can rationally examine them and describe the faults therein. It is only dealing with their own religion that prompts the suspension of disbelief and logic. In addition, religion's self-perpetuating, unfalsifiable nature allows it to tighten its grip on the minds of believers. Prayer is the quintessential example of this. Whenever a theist says a prayer, one of two things can happen - what they prayed for will happen, or it won't. If it doesn't, they are rarely disappointed. They merely assume God is teaching them patience, or is working to bring about a greater good, or is just holding off for mysterious unknowable reasons of his own. On the other hand, if the prayer is apparently granted (with the millions that are said every day, it would be surprising if a few did not come true just by chance), they rejoice at this latest incontrovertible proof of God's existence and beneficience. It's a proposition that can't fail: if the prayer is granted, it's the will of God; if it's not granted, it's also the will of God. Nothing counts as evidence against their belief. Religion is, by its nature, designed to be impervious to any imaginable disproof. To further immunize itself against logic and reason, religion has adopted a particularly insidious idea: that of indoctrinating the young, converting them at an early age. For example, there are organizations such as the "Good News Club" that specifically target elementary school-aged children for evangelism. It is no coincidence that they do this: children at this age still lack the ability to tell fantasy apart from reality, as well as being especially prone to unquestioning acceptance of whatever authority figures tell them. And once they are converted, of course, the other mechanisms detailed above help religion to tighten its hold on their minds; the longer they have believed for, the less likely they are to eventually deconvert, especially if it is the way they have always been brought up and know no other. If proselytizers had any confidence in the soundness of their doctrine, they would not need to brainwash the young, but could afford to wait until someone was of an age and mental state to consider the evidence rationally to present their case. Instead, they do not do this: they target the young, the lonely, the bereaved, and others who are emotionally and psychologically vulnerable. It is worth noting that this last tactic is also one of the common techniques of a cult: ambush the vulnerable, break down their defenses with a flood of propaganda, give them encouragement and affirmation if they are swayed, and finally, cause them to disconnect from everyone outside the cult so they will no longer have a life if they leave it. These are classic brainwashing techniques, and thus it is no surprise that they are frequently employed by religions as well as cults. In fact, the difference between the two is only a matter of size - a religion is a large, socially acceptable cult. There is no other difference between them. Like cults, some religions are benign, but many others are radical and dangerous. Like cults, religions can convince people to abandon everything they used to be and sign away their possessions and lives to distant authority figures. Like cults, religions often threaten dire punishment on those who leave, or wage psychological warfare on their enemies. And like cults, religions can brainwash people into believing the most absurd and illogical things. Really, how are stories of snakes talking or men coming back from the dead any less ridiculous than stories about UFOs hiding in comets' tails, other than that more people have a preconceived bias in favor of one than in favor of the other? The branding of skepticism and critical thinking as evil and dangerous; the suppression of free thought and logic; the compartmentalization of the human mind; the use of self-perpetuating and unfalsifiable doctrines; the targeting of the young for evangelism; and the same brainwashing techniques commonly employed by cults. All these practices and more reveal religion for what it is: a memetic virus, a system of brainwashing actively designed to stifle free inquiry, discourage doubt and keep minds under control and obedient. In contrast to atheism, religion teaches that there are such things as forbidden questions, that we should passively accept the decrees of authority, and that it is right and good to censor inconvenient knowledge and "dangerous" truths. If the point is not yet proven, one final example may help drive it home. Consider the initial response of many fundamentalists to an atheist - the one that comes even before the typical straw-man mischaracterizations of their opponent's position, even before the arguments from authority, circular reasoning and other logical fallacies. Can anyone doubt that it often takes the response of an angry, incredulous denunciation - knee-jerk outrage that, in essence, reduces to, "You're not allowed to say things like that!" Why is this, one wonders? Could it be that the fundamentalists are so deeply brainwashed that they are no longer able even to conceive of the possibility of people who think differently than they do? Could it be that they are threatened and incensed by the mere existence of people who do not agree with them? Or could it simply be that they are unable to tolerate opposing viewpoints? (Just think: Why is there even such a concept as blasphemy?) All of these speak eloquently to the status of religion as a mind-control tool. Doubtless, sadly, there are some who are so thoroughly indoctrinated that deconversion is no longer even a possibility for them. Their minds are permanently trapped in the shackles of theism; they are enslaved and glad to be so, and they will probably be that way until they die. But there are also many believers whose minds still have at least some capacity for free thought. It is these people whom atheists must target - if not necessarily to convert them, to at least get them to understand that we exist, that we are people like everyone else, and that we have good reasons for thinking as we do. It is these people who still have the spark of freedom that we can and must encourage - because religion, in the end, is a method of mind control, and it cannot survive forever in the presence of critical thought.

I relinquish the ownership of my immortal soul into the keeping of Satan, the Master of Evil Demons, Commander of all Ungodly Forces and Unclean Spirits, Inventor of the Sin, Eater of Souls, and Chief Torturer of all dead Heathens and Damned Christians. I furthermore give to him and his subservient creatures the rights and privileges and freedoms entitled to me by the Creator of the Universe, whose name I flout. I understand fully that I will live as a creature of sin and an artist of villainy and corruption in this world, and become a slave of evil in the next; property of the diabolic in both. I shall spurn and debase all things worthy and pure, and I shall make ruin my cause and calling. I shall indulge in joyous cruelties from the pettiest to the most maleficent. I swear that I shall curse the names of all the angels of the host of heaven; and with the aid of my Liege, they shall hear me and be tormented thereby. I shall endeveor to commit all kinds of sin and crimes against the Enemy-who-yet-rules, succeed and blacken the soul of the earth. I am a blasphemy. I am one accursed. I am among the host of the damned. This Pact, binds me to the Eternal Darkness that is Satan in a manner as irrevocable as his fall into the realms of perdition. There, with my new master, I shall remain in torment and unforgiven until the end of the world. In return for this sacrifice and for my denial of all that is good and redeeming, I will possess money in substantial quantities, the fulfillment of all of my lusts, and the destruction and degradation of all that opposes my whims. I shall overcome with blackness, succeed in monstrosity, vindicate all scorn, by breaking the Whole. In return for the additional corruption of other people, for every one damned and dead that I am responsible for directly, I shall have my life prolonged in health for another two years and a day. I fully understand the consequences of the signing of this most unholy pact; I proceed willfully, cognizant of my coming privileges and debts. I furthermore promise to fulfill my debt punctually and without resistance, nor will I pray nor plead for my soul in any way, nor attempt to have others plead in my behalf. I confirm this in this covenant more tightly knit than the bonds of life and death. May the Prince of Darkness take pleasure in my gift and my betrayal, and use such to spread his reign further throughout the phenomenal world by annihilating the spiritual.

I used to spend a lot of time debating Fundies on a few online debate forums. Most of them are nice enough people but apparently impervious to reason, logic, rationality, common sense, Reality, etc., when it comes to their religious beliefs. You can show a Fundie the truth and facts over and over and over again and they still won't get it. I have had the experience of having a Fundie state something dogmatic, like the absurd idea that the Bible is inerrant, that was easily disprovable. I disproved their claim and any reasonable person would have learned and adjusted their views. Not Fundies! They just keep posting the same tired, easily disproved arguments over and over again in spite of the fact that they have been soundly refuted. They refuse to learn. Why? Brainwashing and FEAR. The Christian Church uses several known brainwashing techniques to gain and then keep converts. Here is an example: Ever been to a church service where the same song is sung over and over and over again? I have, and it is a common practice. What the vast majority of church members do not know is that this is a brainwashing technique. The repetition of the song breaks down mental barriers and puts people in an extremely suggestible state. The music plays a part as well. Deep bass tones played rhythmically and repeatedly will cause people to enter an altered state of consciousness - they go in and out of trance while the song is playing. Watch a Charismatic praise & worship service or pay attention next time you are in a church service. You will notice some folks staring blankly into space. They are in a hypnotic trance. Some preachers also use a speaking technique called "voice roll", I think, which also has a hypnotic effect. While in a relaxed, altered! state, most people's defenses (and critical thinking skills) are down and what they are taught at that time they will not necessarily think through for themselves. So, while the defenses are down, the brainwashing and indoctrination takes place. FEAR is another tactic that the Christian Church uses and, unfortunately, they use it well. Christians are taught that the Bible is the "word of God" and that they have the ONLY truth. Anything that disagrees with the Bible and/or the Church's interpretation of the Bible is a deception. For example, all other religions are a deception. Evolution is a deception. If it doesn't agree with the Bible, it is a demonic deception designed to keep us from believing the Bible and therefore being "saved". According to the Church, you MUST believe their way or you have displeased God and are going to Hell FOREVER. The Hell doctrine is nothing more than a heinously cruel fear tactic that has been used successfully for centuries. It should be obvious that the concepts of a Loving God and an eternal Hell are diametrically opposed ideas. With this kind of pressure and these kinds of fear tactics, is it any wonder that Fundies don't think for themselves? The best thing to do regarding your Fundie relatives and friends is to realize that, while they are well-meaning in their beliefs, they have been brainwashed. Brainwashed people cannot see the truth that is right before their eyes and they will deny facts that do not agree with their beliefs. Brainwashing causes a disconnect in the mind of the Believer between Reality and religious fantasy. Reality is filtered out in favor of the religious dogma/fantasy. Recovery from brainwashing and the fear tactics absolutely is possible! There are those like me who woke up on their own and came back to Reality and there are those who are helped back to Reality by those who care about them. It is very important to understand that Fundamentalist Christianity is a Destructive Cult, NOT a harmless and benign belief system. Any institution that employs brainwashing techniques and fear tactics CANNOT be considered to be a harmless and/or respectable institution. Judge Not Lest You Be Judged! I was briefly a member of a Yahoo! forum started by a Fundie who claimed that he could prove that Christianity is true. Well, I jumped right in there and proceeded to posting evidence pointing strongly to the fact that Christianity is NOT true. The owner of the group, although a Fundie, was impressed and open to looking at what I had posted. However, this did upset the hell out of one of the most closed-minded Fundies that I have ever encountered. He claimed to be a Christian, yet he was obnoxious, judgmental and at times viciously ugly in his responses to me. I offer these examples of his typically Christian attitude: You are just one more person that does not believe in the resurrection of Christ. I happen to believe everything is only made possible through the Grace of Christ and the resurrection. One needs to be born both of the living water and the blood. The parting of the red seas into the promised land. Even as earth reflects heaven, the bible is the revelation of the resurrection of Christ. I know Christ rose from the Grave. The very essence of Him is like ocean roses on the wind beneath the wings of my spirit. Do I believe that Christianity represents a false church? No,but I believe that many people who think they have been born again in a basin of water are just fooling themselves and paying tithes to line the coffers of Satan. Real Christians have been resurrected in the flesh. Joan of arc was not roasted like a pig on a poke on a whim. The disciples, were not thrown to lions and beheaded and persecuted to propagate a lie. How many of you limp wristed and lily livered know it alls would go to the stake and be burned for your stupid suppositions? any of you? which one, come on,speak up. which one of you wants to stand by your paper and ink logically dissections? any of you? no,I did not think so. None of you are willing to stand by anything you write. But I will live and if need be,I will die in Christ. What God has brought together none of your pigs will separate. Joan of arc did not succumb to those pigs in robe know it all wannabe saints and nor will I succumb to stupid logically foolishness perpetuated by blind ignorance. True wisdom comes from God and those in the know willing go to the cross just as Jesus willing goes to the cross for them. Most of you wouldn't understand that because you are still carnies. time is of the essence so either get with the program or have a dip in fire lake. Wow, wasn't that special? And then this: Poor little baby. Someone take your soother? Did I not tell you to run along? The god you worship is that bloated face you see in the mirror. How typical of you to blame all the problems of the world on Christians. One does not need to be a Christian to model the kind of behavior you exemplify. It is obvious you know absolutely nothing about the gospel according to Christ. You base your lack of faith on what other people do. Oh Christians are this and Christians are that and you are no different than many of them so why be so judgmental? You say they are fanatical in their religion and you have made a religion out of being nothing but an angry and hate filled fanatic yourself. have you even noticed? Is it Christians that you hate,or is it God? Oh I'm sorry, you don't believe in God right? Of course not,God is good and merciful and loving and you are of the opposite,so of course you don't believe in God. As for love, yes I do love. I even love heathen animals like you but don't think that means I have to fawn all over you and act all meek and sweet for your benefit. Love sometimes means reproof and rebuke and that's all I'm doing is reproving and rebuking you but you think I'm condemning you.lol! I don't need to condemn you,you do a great job of that all by yourself. Just keep talking, the grave you dig only gets deeper. Fortunately, I think most Christians are a bit kinder than this religious fanatic asshole. He represents the worst among religious folks. He couldn't refute a single thing that I had posted. All he could do was spit venom at me and at the truth and facts that were upsetting his Fundie Fantasy Land. Although this is an extreme example of Christian fundamentalism, the point is that most Christians ignore Jesus's command against judging others and they ignore quite a lot of other commands from their alleged Lord if following them is uncomfortable or not practical. Christians are, without a doubt, the most judgmental people on the face of the Earth! The attitude of a lot of Christians speaks volumes against the alleged "truth" of their religion, at least in my opinion. Quotes For and About Fundies "There are always those who, when they trip over the truth, get up, dust themselves off, and continue on as if nothing has happened." The American historian, James Harvey Robinson (1863-1936), once wrote (with perhaps more psychiatric insight than historical): "Few of us take the pains to study the origins of our convictions; indeed, we have a natural repugnance to so doing. We like to continue to believe what we have been accustomed to accept as true, and the resentment aroused when doubt is cast upon any of our assumptions leads us to seek every manner of excuse for clinging to them. The result is that most of our so-called reasoning consists in finding arguments for going on believing as we already have."

Today I cooked a new kind of rice I got from the supermarket. Unfortunatly, the rice really sucked. It was like glue with the consistensecy of wet cement. I'm not joking, this rice was nasty stuff! After a final cautious taste test, I knew it must have been made in heaven's kitchen! The rice was indeed the work of God! How shocking! I quickly cooked the remaining bag of rice about 6 cups and added lots of red food coloring to it. When it was done I shoveled it all into a large plastic bag and tied it up. At 1:00 am, I walked to the nearest church and flung it all at the two big front doors. THA-WOMP!!!! The rice splattered all over both doors! Then, I left a sticky-note underneath the horrid mess. I wrote: "Dear Jesus' ass kissers, I knew you must have asked your god to send this shit to my house. You can't poision me with this holy-rice-a-roni crap! So, as you can see, I have returned it to you." Then I went home and masturbated to pictures of churches burning down.

I love seeing Bible study sites and going through them. My site is http://OlympicPC.com and has the complete Bible online free in Real Audio and text formats. You can use the search engine to find something or read and listen at the smae time. OlympicPC is the only website that you can listen to one chapter while looking at another.
